Nematodes in your Area
In 2007, Syngenta Seedcare initiated a survey of corn nematode populations in the Midwest. Surveyors took three random samples in each county of the northern Corn Belt planting at least 25,000 acres of corn. Five university labs and one private lab processed the samples and determined that corn nematodes could be found in every county sampled. The outcome of the survey is a visual representation of the widespread dilemma nematodes can create.
Potential nematode damage also is well known and established in the South. Most of the nematodes present in Southern cotton fields, including two of the most damaging nematodes in cotton production, the root-knot nematode and lance nematode, also are threats to corn acreage.
